Page Rank
The Page Rank of a web page is very significant to
get high position in the serps. The term page rank is offered by the
big G (Google). Yahoo also offers such a term called web rank. The
Page Rank of web page can be calculated using the Page Rank
algorithm. The algorithm says that the page rank of a web page is
the sum of the Page Ranks of all web pages linking to it (its
inbound links), divided by the number of links on each of those web
pages (its outbound links).
Mathematically the Page Rank algorithm can be
represented as follows:
PR(WP) = (1-d) + d [ PR(W1) / O(W1) + ... + PR(Wn) / O(Wn) ]
where PR(WP) is the Page Rank of a web page WP
PR(W1) is the Page Rank of a page W1
O(T1) is the number of outbound links from the web page W1
n is the number of sites that link to webpage WP
d is damping factor in the range 0 < d < 1, usually set to value
0.85
Thus from the above algorithm it can be concluded that there are two
factors that can affect the Page Rank of a web page.
The more number of inbound links is better as it
helps in increasing the Page Rank. The fewer of outbound links on
the page which points at your page is better.
Page Rank is also some way related to link
popularity. Link popularity is the quality and quantity of inbound
links to a website. So the calculation of link popularity depends on
the quality and strength of the links, not just on the quantity and
volume of links. So, you should be very careful while building and
increasing the number of inbound links to your site as it shows its
direct affect on the Page Rank of the web page.
As some people have in their mind that increasing
the Page Rank of a web page is too difficult, but it is not so.
Before you begin to increase the Page Rank of your website and
site?s individual web pages, you need to evaluate the current Page
Rank of your site's pages.
Internal Linking
Another factor that plays an important role in the
Page Rank of the pages within a site is Internal linking. It is most
common that the homepage of a site has the highest PR of the website.
The Internal linking (the links that exists among the home page and
the other pages of the site) does not help in increasing Page Rank
of a web page, but sharing the Page Rank of the site, and the
intensity of your keyword strength and theme.
You should follow the points for internal linking
in your site.
External Linking
The most significant factor in determining Page
rank is external linking. External links are the incoming links that
send traffic to your site. Attempt to increase Page rank can be made
by contacting other websites to provide you a link back. The
websites to whom link request are sent should be relevant and on
theme (same theme). « Back to website optimization
